What Are Wrinkle-Relaxing Injections?

Wrinkle-relaxing injections which contain Botulinum Toxin or neurotoxin - known more commonly as ‘Botox’ - are perhaps the most widely known treatments in the anti-ageing field.

Anti-wrinkle injections are a non-surgical treatment used to temporarily relax targeted facial muscles, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and  wrinkles which are caused by expression. These are known as ‘dynamic lines’.

Precise, anatomical placement and accurate dosing means that Botox can deliver harmonious, natural results that compliment your expressions and personal features without altering your natural expressions.

How Do Wrinkle-Relaxing Injections Work?

The treatment uses a purified toxin that blocks nerve signals to the muscle. When injected precisely, this causes the targeted muscle to relax, softening lines in areas such as the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

By targeting the muscles of facial expression, these muscles start to exert less of an effect on the overlying skin. This helps to prevent repeated creasing of the skin, allowing for a gentle softening of those strong, expressive lines.

In people who have developed a mild etching of these facial expression lines (known as ‘static lines’), the use of neurotoxin can help to improve and soften their appearance and help to slow down progression into deeper lines.

In those with severe etching or static lines, the injections will not be able to reverse these, however it can prevent them from progressing.

In those with highly expressive facial muscles, where the lines are currently only visible on movement the use of neurotoxin can have a preventative effect on the development of facial wrinkles. In other words, it can stop dynamic lines from progressing into static lines.

Wrinkle-Relaxing injections are not suitable for anyone under the age of 21, patients who are breast-feeding or pregnant and those with a known history of neuromuscular disorders.

• Treatment involves a series of small injections into the target muscle, placed in carefully mapped areas

• The treatment itself is over in a matter of minutes

• Patients find they are able to continue their day as normal with no downtime

• Results begin to appear within 3-5 days and reach maximal effect by 2 weeks

• If at that point you feel like you would like a bit of a stronger effect then we would be delighted to see you for a complimentary review and if indicated, administer a complimentary top-up (within 2-4 weeks)

• Similarly,  if your movement feels a little bit tight or heavy initially, then rest assured that after the 2nd week everything just settles into a natural result.

• Results last around 3–6 months and gradually wear off: repeat treatments maintain results

Aftercare

• Avoid exercise for 24 hours after treatment

• Avoid excessive heat for 24 hours after treatment

• Avoid rubbing or massaging the area for 24 hours after treatment

• Avoid use of make-up over the puncture sites for a minimum of 6 hours – ideally wait until the following day

• Mild redness or small bumps may occur and settle quickly
